The School College Work Initiative Dual Credit program at Durham College allows students to participate in post-secondary courses and apprenticeship training, while they are still in high school.

Dual credits engage students through exposure to college courses and culture while supporting their successful transition to post-secondary education. Presently, over 2,000 area high school students are taking a dual credit program with Durham College.

Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. The Faculty of Liberal Studies requires a part-time professor to teach Accounting I. In this course, students are introduced to basic accounting fundamentals and work with a complete set of books for a sole proprietor. Students explore the steps in the accounting cycle as well as effective internal financial controls.

The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  • Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  • Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications: * A professional designation is an asset.

  • A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  • Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  • Proven track record of life-long learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system.

Required Experience

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR DUAL CREDIT PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:

The Dual Credit program is a program that provides high school students with an opportunity to take a college credit while they are still attending high school. The winter semester begins the week of February 19, 2024.

Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Travel to high schools across Durham Region is required.
