What responsibilities will you have in this role?

  • Leads, the provision of accounting learning support and will contribute to the provision of mathematics and other general learning supports for GBC students – online and in-person.
  • Leads development and delivery of accounting tutoring, course-embedded tutorials for the foundational accounting course, peer learning groups, and contributes to development of math/numeracy/academic learning needs ranging from general skill development to skill remediation of at-risk students.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, assigns responsibilities, mentors, and evaluates all student employees delivering accounting support services and contribute to same for the general group of TLC peer tutors and peer leader staff.
  • Liaises with faculty and staff, primarily in the Centre for Business to develop, create, facilitate, and schedule the provision of academic support for accounting. Mentors student staff delivering accounting tutoring support, and will contribute to same for the TLC student staff.
  • Mentors Peer Leaders, including regular weekly feedback on learning materials and tutorial plans prepared by accounting student staff to ensure content is relevant to course learning outcomes and tutorial scope, and material is accessible to a wide range of learners.
  • Develops and/or contributes to the TLC Tutor Training and Development Program and Peer Leader Training Program, and contributes to facilitation of same.
  • Develops and facilitates programming in alignment with the Tutoring and Learning Centre (TLC) mandate, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), hybrid learning, and best practices in the field.
  • Develops or oversees development and/or curation of learning resources related to accounting and will contribute to same related to math and general learning support.
  • Develops, sets up and maintains tutorial course shells on the LMS, and monitors tutorial records including attendance, assignment submission, and provision of information related to grading to course faculty.
  • Participates in and contribute to TLC goals and operations and will contribute to initiatives to foster continuous improvement of the TLC programming and services.
  • Assess needs and opportunities, plan service delivery and evaluate service effectiveness of accounting learning supports.
  • Conducts ongoing research and implementation of best practices related to tutoring and accounting skill development,
  • Other related duties as assigned.

What qualifications do you need for this role?

  • Four-year degree plus professional certification from a recognized post secondary institution in Education, Accounting, Business, Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Post-bachelor level coursework related to accounting, mathematics and/or learning skills education at a postsecondary education institution.
  • Five years of cumulative experience tutoring as well as providing learning strategy support in formal contexts of an adult education environment with one year of experience in training, mentorship, and supervision or team leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Blackboard, and other college applications.
  • Knowledge of GBC policies and processes is preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to provide academic support to learners with diverse needs and goals and skills to provide operational and logistical support to a large team.
  • Commitment to Anti-Racism, anti-oppression, diversity and inclusion, and the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Exhibit understanding of, and ability to develop and deliver academic supports for learners with diverse needs and goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Proven strengths in organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated communication, collaboration, teamwork, and people skills.
  • Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.

Hours of Work: 10:00 am – 5:00 PM.
During peak cycles, overtime and/or shift changes may be required.
Ability to work hybrid (both on-campus and online) is required.
Travel between campuses is required.
