The University of Victoria is seeking a full-time People and Equity Analytics Advisor to work in our Human Resources department. In this role, you will support the development and advancement of evidence-informed equity, diversity and inclusion integrated HR initiatives. As a data expert, you will use data analytics skills and experience to centre people, gather data, gain insight, tell stories, drive decisions, renew HR strategy, and measure impact. As the go-to for relevant human resources data analysis to support our people strategy and equity planning process, you are highly collaborative and possess the ability to interpret requests, ask the right questions, and present the findings in a creative way. The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $63,010 – $78,761 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.

Performance range: starting salary to max of 90,575 is available through annual performance increases

An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations Code.

Job Summary

The People and Equity Analytics Advisor acts as strategic Human Resources partner specializing in equity-centered people analytics. The role uses a data-driven approach to provide advice, guidance and consultation to leaders and HR colleagues to improve people related decisions for the purpose of advancing UVic’s priorities, including equity, diversity and inclusion strategic. This role also contributes analytical insight to the renewal of HR systems and processes as a means to address systems of oppression that impede the career advancement, recruitment, and retention of equity-deserving groups, and to ensure HR programming is considered with an anti-oppressive/anti-racist lens. These barriers may exist in areas such as policy, practice, culture and organizational climate.

Reporting to the Director, Organization Development and Learning Servcies, the People and Equity Analytics Advisor acts as an integral member of a strategically focused HR team. This role supports the development and advancement of evidence-informed EDI integrated HR initiatives at the University of Victoria (UVic). As a data expert, this position uses data analytics skills and experience to centre people, gather data, gain insight, tell stories, drive decisions, renew HR strategy, and measure impact.

Areas of focus:

  • Data collection, synthesis and analysis to develop insights from complex data and support in the development of communicating trends, barrriers and risks
  • Identify systems for review where barriers may exist in areas such as policy, practice, culture and organizational climate
  • Contribute to the development of reports and recommendations identifying actions for changing HR policy, communication and practice
  • Define and assess barriers, both acute and systemic
  • Use predicitive modeling solutions to advise HR leadership and enable better decision making using data
  • Provides analytical support to EDI projects, and systems implementation of those projects

This role will continue to evolve and will respond cooperatively to the given priorities of the day within a challenging and dynamic environment.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and experience

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in Information Systems, Business, Mathematics, Human Resources, Economics, Data Science or other related field.
3+ years’ relevant experience in a large, complex organization. This position requires demonstrated experience:

  • addressing social issues connected with data, including confidentiality, personal data, and equity considerations in survey design, data collection, and reporting
  • translating data into meaningful insights
  • working with workforce data and metrics

Specialized training or education in data analytics is an asset.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to applying the values of equity, diversity and inclusion to data work and working relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; high quality document and report preparation and data visualization skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and build constructive working relationships.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
  • Proficiency with with statistical software applications (R, Tableau, SPSS, Python) as well as data visualization tools
  • EDI – current knowledge of social issues, trends and approaches in a complex and evolving social and legal environment.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and summarizing large sets of data, developing and presenting data and key performance indicators
  • Resourcefulness – strong understanding of the HR function and data, or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire functional expertise
  • Highly analytical with an ability to relay insights in an easy-to- digest format to stakeholders, knowing that this will help inform them in their day to day decision making and will aid in planning, delivering and evaluating talent initiatives at all levels of the organization.
  • An ability to work effectively in a changing environment and evolving role, requiring new perspectives and creative approaches
