Job Summary:

The Registered Dietitian is responsible to provide people affected by diabetes with the nutrition knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to live with and manage the disease within their own lifestyles. The Registered Dietitian provides expertise in the area of nutritional health including assessment, recommendations, resource advocacy and client education. The dietitian also provides one-on-one or group nutrition counseling sessions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with an interdisciplinary team.
  • To plan, implement and evaluate nutrition care plans for people with diabetes
  • Act as a diabetic/nutrition resource person for professionals, services and the community
  • Evaluate and apply new information or research to the management of care of the person with diabetes,
  • Teach and counsel the clients living with diabetes the nutritional component to self manage the disease
  • Delivers client nutrition recommendations to primary health care providers.
  • Provides nutrition education, leadership and direction related to applied nutrition care in diabetic clients.

External and Internal Relationships:

  • Works closely with Clients, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, and other cross functional teams.
  • Liaise with physician and community resources.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field.
  • Current registration with the College of Dietitians of the province.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the role of a Registered Dietitian
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience working in Diabetes setting is an asset

Skill Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written abilities, demonstrated educational/presentation/facilitation and networking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a rapport with specialized population
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Computer knowledge and abilities are required

Other:

  • Current criminal background check including a vulnerable sector screen.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required.
