About the Opportunity

We have been exclusively retained to find a new Vice President, Finance for our client to add to their team. This group is a well-respected, well-managed, $500M+ in revenue, Alberta based organization that has experienced impressive growth in the last 3 – 5 years in the specific markets they serve.

This is a newly created position, based on growth, strategic process reengineering, that reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer, and works closely with the CEO as well. The Vice President, Finance will have overall responsibility for all day-to-day accounting practices and procedures for multiple legal entities and will serve as the internal expert on all areas of accounting. This role will also oversee all aspects of financial planning and reporting, general accounting, operations accounting, treasury, tax, and insurance.

This position can be located in Red Deer, AB or London, ON. Ideally, the client would like the right candidate to work in-office, 3 days a week and work-from-home or remotely, the other 2. Based on that, qualified, surrounding area candidates can be considered with some commitment and flexibility/ability to travel.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and direct the operational and financial accounting teams, providing leadership and guidance to the Directors, along with an administrative team of 30 in total
  • Establish, enhance, and maintain accounting policies and procedures
  • Direct and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and management reporting
  • Oversee monthly results and performance analysis with focus on variances to plan and advise on Key Performance Measures
  • Preparation of quarterly MD&A in collaboration with the CFO and CEO
  • Ensure private investor, loan covenant and compliance reporting are completed monthly, due diligence support on current and future investment scenarios
  • Organize and oversee the annual budgeting and monthly forecast process in coordination with operational and functional management teams
  • Coordination of internal, external and government audits across all entities
  • Liaise with external advisors on all tax compliance, preparation, and filings

Work closely with the CFO on:

  • Cash flow planning including weekly updates and long-range forecasts
  • Monitoring of capital expenditures
  • Manage cost analysis for all operations
  • Annual strategic planning process and review
  • Provide financial leadership and direction on ERP system upgrades and enhancement projects
  • Ad-hoc projects and requests as directed by the CFO

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • You are an established CPA with 10 – 15+ years post designation experience
  • University degree with a major in accounting, finance or business
  • Prior public accounting firm experience at a senior level is seen as an asset
  • 5 – 7+ years in financial management combined with above average technical skills
  • Strong people skills, leadership, and management experience with a knack for supporting growth in your people and team
  • Strong attention to detail, deadline-orientated, along with high analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Energetic, pro-active and passionate about supporting and growing the business
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to work well in a collaborative, team environment
  • Service, retail experience, seen as a plus+
