Are you looking to help move forward the advanced analytics capabilities of an investment group from early stages to beyond? Our team is responsible for developing and maintaining performance, risk and advanced analytics reporting for RBC Wealth Management Investment & Trading group (I&T) in Canada. If you are detail-oriented, eager to learn, ready to apply both investment and technical knowledge skills, this Associate position in our Investment Management Analytics team might be the right opportunity for you. Help us deliver the best portfolio and market insights, in addition to the tools to support the needs of our portfolio managers and strategists.
What will you do?
- Learn the business as usual for performance and risk management to support our investment committees.
- Help improve processes as we integrate new datasets to automate business as usual where possible.
- Support the development of our data pipelines and methods to deliver insights (web, tableau, excel, etc) to our various equity and multi-asset portfolio specialists.
- Support I&T’s ability to capitalize on opportunities to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of RBC Wealth Management’s investment strategy by partnering with the Investments & Trading team and various groups across RBC focused on improving our analytics processes and capabilities.
- Ensure accuracy and quality through production of summaries and reports while meeting timelines on recurring reporting needs.
- Ensure policies and procedures are implemented and documented.
- Conduct Ad hoc projects, data extractions or analysis as directed.
- Be a part of a start-up like setting where fast-fail is highly valued, level of uncertainty is high and requirements are not all defined in advance (iterative feedback loop).
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Computer Science or related quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics)
- Experience/interest in performance and risk reporting and analysis.
- Pursuing/interest in Chartered Financial Analyst or other finance/risk training or designation
- Knowledge of SQL and at least one programming language (Python, R, Matlab, C, C#, Java, etc).
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills. Good communication with peers and end users, to understand and translate the business requirements into data-related recommendations and solutions.
- Knowledge of financial systems (FactSet, Bloomberg, Refinitiv, etc) and working with time series data from these vendors.
- Drive to ensure data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including data sourcing/collection, normalization, and transformation.
- Great attention to detail.
Nice to Have
- Experience using Git, Github, Zenhub. Experience in agile design methodologies and frameworks.
- Experience working with Tableau.
- Experience using cloud-enabled technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), specifically S3, Athena, EMR, RDS, or other AWS database related products.
- Experience with big data analytics technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka); experience compiling, manipulating and analyzing large datasets, with a good understanding of data processing frameworks.
